Unified data platform for retail excellence across channels and countries

A Nordic beauty retailer operating across Sweden, Norway, and Finland needed a unified analytical foundation for its fragmented data across e-commerce and physical retail operations.

Norrin designed and built a unified data platform that consolidates information from multiple operational systems, creates common data structures and definitions, and enables consistent analytics and analysis across channels and countries.

  • Solution

A unified data platform that consolidates operational data from across the Nordic business and creates common data definitions enabling consistent analysis. With data modeling and integrations built on Microsoft Azure, Norrin created reusable data products that enable teams across the organization to work from a single source of truth.

Power BI provides the analytics and reporting layer, giving business users self-service access to consistent data across channels and countries. The platform is continuously developed and supported as business and technology needs evolve.

  • Business value add

    • Foundation for advanced analytics use cases including customer insights, inventory optimization, and supply chain intelligence
    • Unified analytical foundation across multiple channels (e-commerce and physical retail) and countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland)
    • Common data definitions and structures enabling consistent reporting across sales, finance, supply chain, and inventory
    • Reusable data products reducing duplication and accelerating time-to-insight for new analytical needs
    • Self-service analytics through Power BI enabling business users to see the whole picture at a glance
    • Scalable platform architecture supporting continuous business growth and new data sources

Multi-channel, multi-country data

Beauty retail across the Nordics requires balancing physical stores, e-commerce operations, and regional variations across Sweden, Norway, and Finland. Each channel and country generates data from different operational systems which creates a fragmented landscape where no single source of truth existed for business analysis.

The organization needed a way to consolidate this fragmentation without losing the ability to analyze performance at the channel, country, and business function levels. In addition to collecting all relevant data, the focus was on  creating common structures and business definitions across many different source systems.

Building the unified foundation

The approach focused on developing reusable data products and a modern analytics layer that could serve multiple business needs. Built on Microsoft Azure, the platform combines data integration and modeling capabilities with Power BI for analytics and reporting.

Data integration and modeling work enabled the creation of common business definitions so sales, inventory, and customer mean the same thing whether the analysis is running on Norwegian e-commerce or Swedish physical retail data. Power BI provides the reporting and analytics interface, giving business users across the organization access to consistent, governed data. The architecture supports both standard reporting and advanced analytics use cases.

This long-term approach allows the retailer to continue building on its existing data investments while adopting new capabilities, without requiring a complete rebuild. The modern data platform, properly designed and continuously evolved, becomes a strategic asset that grows with the business.
